AREAS OF EXPERTISE

ORL pédiatrique

Dr S. Canivet treats patients of all ages with different pathologies and specific needs.

1. ENT and Pediatrics

A former Assistant at Paris hospital Necker pour Enfants Malades,
Dr Canivet gives you  an expert’s clear information on your child’s pathology.

In case of surgical intervention, she operates at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre.

2. Thyroid, parathyroid and neck surgery

Dr S. Canivet leads Monaco Thyroid Staff in association with the thyroid specialists

(endocrinologists, specialised radiologists, nuclear medicine specialist).  They meet once a month

to discuss each case in order to propose the best treatment.

The point at issue is to select the nodules with a risk of malignancy and to do surgery on cases that are

definitely justified. The blood test before any thyroid surgery includes:

-TSH quantitative analysis

-Thyroid ultrasound scanning permitting to rank the nodules according

to the EU-TIRADS Classification.

- Ultrasound scanned cyto-puncture of suspicious nodules

The EU-TIRADS classification enables to select the nodules to be punctured.

Cyto-puncures are done twice a week in the ENT ward of GHPG.

Ultrasound scanning and cytology enable to classify the degree of malignancy of the nodules.

Thus we may select which patients will need surgery and which can be placed under medical supervision.

In case of surgery, Dr Canivet operates at Princess Grace Hospital Centre.

The operation is done under monitoring of recurrent nerves.

This technology is also interesting in the salivary gland surgery and especially in the parotid surgery in order to protect the facial nerve.

3. Face cutaneous cancer surgery

Face skin lesions are often due to exposure to sunlight.  Your dermatologist diagnoses them.  Surgical

removal is often the best treatment.

This is delicate surgery and requires a good knowledge of oncology and plastic

surgery in order to get optimal result from the point of view of therapy and aesthetics.

4. Deafness

Causes and types are many.

Deafness may affect children as well as adults.

An early diagnosis is essential to the right therapy whether medical, surgical or prosthetic (hearing aid)

5. Balance problems and dizziness

In collaboration with her partner Dr Lavagna, they have
developed a centre for exploring balance problems and
dizziness

With their equipment at the cutting edge of technology (inner ear pressure measurement,

TRV chair) you will obtain an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment.

A large number of pathologies may explain the sense of dizziness whether it is a light unbalance or

revolving dizziness. They are often due to inner ear or labyrinth pathology

Appropriate physiotherapy can improve the patient’s quality of life and reduce risks of fall.
